So, what exactly is the ketogenic diet? Often referred to as keto, this diet calls for a very low-carb, high-fat and moderate protein diet. It works by first depleting all the carbohydrates stored in your muscles, known as glycogen, and allowing your body to use fat as its primary fuel source.

The whole idea behind keto is to reduce carbs and put your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. In basic terms: you eat fat to use your own fat for energy!

Once you get into a state of ketosis, your body will turn fat into ketones in the liver which will actually result in an endless supply of energy. Many people have found that once in ketosis the brain fog or grogginess they once had is entirely gone.
