What does it all mean?!
The Ketogenic Diet, often referred to as Keto, is a very low-carb, high-fat and moderate protein way of eating.
In basic terms, you eat fat to use your own fat for energy and it is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
- First you get rid of all the carbohydrates stored in your muscles, known as glycogen. This happens after a couple days of following the low-carb, high-fat and moderate protein diet.
- Second, your body will go into a state called ketosis which means your body starts to use the fat in your body, as well as the fat you are eating as its primary fuel source.
- Lastly, when you are in ketosis your body will start to turn fat into something called ketones which are in your liver. These ketones provide an increased amount of endless energy, taking away any grogginess caused by sugar crashes!
Sounds pretty good so far right? But I bet you’re thinking, ‘If I’m eating so much fat, won’t my body store it as fat?’
The simple answer is no!
Because this diet can be tailored to exactly how much fat your body needs, you will constantly be burning the fat for fuel, and breaking down your own body’s fat for energy.
